Getting the Most from Your Invisalign Treatment

March 26, 2024

For those with tooth alignment issues such as crowding, gaps, and bite abnormalities, Invisalign braces offer a great alternative to traditional braces that can speed up your treatment time. Not only are these aligners made from a clear composite resin that’s virtually invisible on the teeth, but they also provide pressure all around the teeth, meaning effective treatment can be achieved in as little as 9-18 months. Of course, the length of your treatment time with Invisalign is heavily dependent on how diligent you are. If you have committed to Invisalign braces, here are some tips from the team at American Dental to help you get the most from your treatment and reduce your treatment time.

Wear Your Aligners as Much as Possible During the First 48 Hours

For the first two days of treatment, you should only take your aligners out to eat and brush your teeth. Keep them in while you sleep and go about your day to start your treatment off on the right foot.

Wear Your Aligners at Least 22 Hours Per Day

Once you get past the first two days of treatment, you must continue to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day. Wearing them any less than that can result in longer treatment times.

Change Your Aligners on Time

Invisalign treatment works by using a series of aligners that gradually shift your teeth into a new position. That’s why it’s so important to switch to your next aligner when your dentist tells you to. Changing them too early won’t speed up your treatment, and changing them too late will slow it down. Listen to your dentist and change your aligners exactly when they tell you to for best results.

Care for Your Aligners Properly

Invisalign aligners are fragile and need to be cleaned daily. The best way to protect your aligners is to keep them in your mouth. Additionally, we recommend cleaning them daily with the products recommended by your dentist. Keeping your aligners in good shape will ensure there are no interruptions in your treatment while also preventing them from harboring harmful bacteria that can cause tooth decay and other serious issues.

Brush and Floss Every Day

You must maintain your oral health routine during Invisalign treatment. Keeping your teeth as healthy as possible will help your treatment go more smoothly and will prevent issues like yellowing and cavities once treatment is complete.
